Digital Media Labs and Makerspaces in Libraries

Makerspace: a learning environment with tools for hands-on creation, including both new technologies and/or basic tools.
Digital media lab: a space with content creation tools, such as computers with video, audio, and image editing software or equipment like cameras and microphones.

Do spaces like this belong in the library of the future? How can they best be implemented?
